How a Grazing Board Business Went From 127 to 882 Monthly Clicks in 5 Months
Location pages with unique copy for every city. A homepage that stopped cannibalizing itself. And the revenue math that made it all worth building.
A Grazing Table Business With Premium Pricing and No Organic Traffic
Sweet and Salty Boards is a grazing table and charcuterie catering company based in Surrey, BC. Harmeet Shergill runs it. The product is premium: custom grazing tables for weddings, corporate events, and private parties. Pricing ranges from $975 for a 25-person table to $2,095 for a 75-person setup. The margins are healthy. The repeat rate is strong.
The problem was traffic. In June 2025, the site was getting 127 organic clicks per month. For a business where a single booking can generate $1,000+, every click has real dollar value. But most people searching "grazing table" or "charcuterie board" in Surrey, Langley, or Vancouver were not finding Sweet and Salty.
We changed that in 5 months.
127 Clicks to 882 Clicks
Before (Jun 2025)
- 127 monthly organic clicks
- Homepage ranking for all location queries (competing with itself)
- No dedicated city pages
- Generic service descriptions
- No seasonal content strategy
- No revenue attribution from organic
After (Nov 2025)
- 882 monthly organic clicks (594% growth)
- Dedicated pages for Surrey, Vancouver, Langley, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Richmond
- Each city page has unique, locally-relevant copy
- Homepage ranking for brand queries only (as intended)
- Seasonal content calendar driving event-timed traffic
- Clear revenue math: each click in this vertical = $7-15 in potential booking value
The Location Page Strategy That Drove 7x Growth
Why One Page Per City (With Unique Copy)
Most agencies build location pages by duplicating a template and swapping the city name. "Grazing Tables in Surrey" becomes "Grazing Tables in Langley" with the same copy, same structure, same everything except the city name. Google sees through this. It is essentially duplicate content with a different keyword.
We wrote unique copy for every city. The Surrey page talks about Surrey event venues, Surrey wedding trends, and what Surrey customers specifically ask for. The Langley page covers the wine country angle, the vineyard events, and the longer travel radius from Surrey. The Vancouver page addresses downtown corporate catering, smaller space constraints, and higher per-head pricing expectations.
Each page ranks for its own set of queries because each page is genuinely different content about a genuinely different market.
Fixing the Homepage Cannibalization
Before the location pages, the homepage was ranking for everything: "grazing table Surrey," "charcuterie board Langley," "grazing catering Vancouver." This sounds good until you realize the homepage was competing against dedicated city pages from competitors.
A homepage trying to rank for 6 cities at once cannot beat a dedicated page that talks about one city in depth. By building the city pages and properly internal-linking them, the homepage stopped trying to rank for location queries and started ranking for what it should rank for: the brand name and broad category terms. This freed the city pages to rank for their specific queries without competing against their own homepage.
This is not a theory. The homepage click-through rate improved after the city pages launched because it was finally showing up for the right queries instead of trying to serve all of them.
The Revenue Math
A grazing table for 25 people runs $975. A table for 75 people runs $2,095. The average booking lands somewhere around $1,200-$1,500.
At 882 monthly organic clicks and even a modest 2% conversion rate, that is roughly 17-18 inquiries per month from organic search alone. If 30% of inquiries convert to bookings, that is 5-6 bookings per month.
At $1,200 average, that is $6,000-$7,200 per month in revenue attributable to organic search. From a channel that cost nothing to maintain beyond the monthly SEO retainer.
The math gets better during wedding season (May through September) when search volume spikes and average order values increase. The seasonal content strategy we built specifically targets these high-value months.
Seasonal Timing Strategy
Grazing table searches are not evenly distributed across the year. Wedding season drives the biggest spike (May-September). Holiday events create a second peak (November-December). Corporate year-end events add a third layer in Q4.
We built a content calendar that publishes seasonal blog posts 6-8 weeks before each peak. A post about "wedding grazing tables" goes live in March to be indexed and ranking by the time brides start searching in May. A holiday party post goes live in September. This pre-positioning means the content is ready and ranking when demand arrives, not scrambling to catch up.
Traffic by City Page
Surrey leads because it is the home base. Langley and Vancouver are the second-tier markets with the most search volume in the vertical. Burnaby, Coquitlam, and Richmond are building. Each page is gaining authority independently because each page has unique content.
Frequently Asked
Do location pages work for food businesses that serve multiple cities?
Yes, but only if each page has unique content. Duplicating a template and swapping the city name does not work. Google treats that as thin content. Each city page needs to reference local venues, local customer patterns, and specific service details for that area. That is what we built for Sweet and Salty, and each page ranks for its own set of queries.
How much does each organic click actually worth for a catering business?
For Sweet and Salty, the average booking is $1,200-$1,500. At a 2% inquiry rate and 30% close rate, each 100 organic clicks produces roughly 0.6 bookings. That puts the value of each click at roughly $7-15. Compare that to Google Ads where a click in the "catering" category costs $3-8 and converts at lower rates because the traffic is less targeted.
Does Beazy handle the content writing or does the business owner write it?
Beazy writes all the content. Harmeet provides the business knowledge: what each city's customers tend to order, typical event sizes, venue partnerships, seasonal patterns. We turn that into SEO-optimized pages and blog posts. The business owner's time investment is minimal. One 30-minute call gives us enough material for several pages.
